Cuttack: Expressing serious concern over rising cyber crime cases in the country and Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today announced to set up a dedicated cyber crime branch in Bhubaneswar to deal with such crime cases.
While addressing at the valedictory function of the 69th Police Duty Meet 2024 here, Shri Majhi said that these days many people are losing money due to cyber crime in the whole country. Crimes like cyber fraud, digital arrest, investment fraud etc. are increasing, he said.
“Cyber crime is a big challenge for all of us. Keeping this in mind, our government has committed to strengthen and modernize the cyber cell of the police department. For this, in the coming days, cyber police stations will be set up in the districts where there is no such police station,” the Chief Minister announced.
Apart from this, a cyber crime branch will be created in Bhubaneswar for high-level investigation and monitoring of cyber crimes, he further announced.
To further strengthen the Police force, the State Government is going to fill up 10,000 vacant posts in the Home Department soon, Majhi said here today. The CM said to increase the efficiency of the police force, arrangements are being made to provide 9,000 bikes to the police stations.
Each police station will be provided with 6 bikes. A special provision of Rs. 35 crore has been made for this in the recently passed supplementary budget, he said.
The posts of Home Guards will be filled to support the police force. It has been decided to fill about 5,000 posts in the police department by combining the vacant and new posts, he said.
These days, criminals are adopting new methods. Therefore, the police also have to stay one step ahead of the criminals, the Chief Minister advised the police officers.
For this, modernization of the police force, reforms in the police system, infrastructure for police investigation and trained human resources are absolutely necessary. Otherwise, a half-prepared police force will become a textbook for catching and punishing criminals, he said.
Stating that the government is giving top priority to the modernization of the police department, Majhi said that in the coming days, the number of vehicles for the use of the police will be increased across the state, which will further strengthen police patrolling, investigation, reaching the victim, and arresting criminals.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always given priority to the safety of women. Our government is adopting a zero tolerance policy against violence against women. Unfortunately, the overall conviction rate and the conviction rate against violence against women at the all-India level are disappointing, he pointed out.
Shri Majhi said that the main reason for this is the lack of professional investigation and the severe lack of political will power in the past. Therefore, he said that this conviction rate should be taken to the national level. For this, the government is setting up more women’s courts at its own level.
A policy decision has been taken to set up women’s courts in four districts. Now, the police will investigate in a professional and scientific manner and file the complaint in court with irrefutable evidences.
Stating that the state police force has been successful in solving some major cases recently, the Chief Minister said that the police have solved the Bonai and Cuttack Kandarpur cases very quickly. Such effective action should be taken in all cases, which will increase the trust of the general public in the police, he told the police officers.
Stating that the target has been set to completely eliminate Maoist and Naxal violence from the country by March 2026, he said that some areas of Odisha have been included in the action plan. To achieve the goal, innovative practice, new technology and skills are needed along with the police force, which can be obtained from duty meetings like today, he said.
The Chief Minister said that strong action should be taken against the criminals who are trying to create chaos in the society in a planned manner, so that fear will be instilled in their minds at every moment.
The protection that was given to such criminals earlier will no longer be the same. The Chief Minister advised to take strict action against them within the ambit of the law.
The Chief Minister further said that the Odisha Police has achieved great success in taking strict action against organized crime related to drug trafficking by conducting special campaigns at regular intervals by the Crime Branch.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated the new buildings of Astaranga, Balanga and Delang Police Stations in Puri district.
