Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary Shrimati Anu Garg chaired a high-level review meeting at the Lok Seva Bhawan conference hall on April 6, 2026, to monitor the progress of various developmental projects in the Kandhamal district.
This follow-up session focused on addressing issues identified during her January field visit and accelerating work in key sectors including health, education, infrastructure, and tourism.
Smt. Garg highlighted that tourism is the primary driver of development for Kandhamal, particularly noting the potential of Daringbadi and its surrounding attractions like Hill View Park, Nature Park, coffee plantations, and local waterfalls.
During the session, the Chief Secretary directed the Tourism Department to implement strategies that translate tourism growth into direct economic benefits for local residents.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Development Commissioner Shri Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh and Additional Chief Secretary Home, Industry and I&PR, Shri Hemant Sharma, Secretary Agriculture Shri Sachin R Jadhav, Secretary Tourism, Shri Balwant Singh, Secretary Health Aswathy S, Secretary SC ST Development, Shri B Parameswaran, while district-level officers participated via virtual mode.
Discussions also emphasized the enhancement of the agricultural sector, focusing on integrated farming for Kandhamal turmeric, spices, black pepper, and strawberries.
To further boost livelihoods, officials prioritized the implementation of improved packaging and better market access for forest-based products such as honey and tamarind, ensuring higher financial returns for the community.
Kandhamal Collector Shri Bedbhushan presented 25 major initiatives aimed at the district’s holistic growth. These plans include expanding digital and railway connectivity, improving electricity infrastructure, and completing mega-piped irrigation projects in Phulbani.
Additional priorities discussed included the establishment of integrated MSME parks, the construction of Adarsha schools and hostels, and the development of libraries across various regions.
