CRS Inquiry On Train Accident

Bhubaneswar: After death of one passenger and several others injured, the railway authority has ordered the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) to hold a detailed inquiry of the incident of derailment of Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Express.

The Superfast Express train was derailed near Nergundi station, resulting in the death of one passenger and leaving three others injured. The accident occurred this morning around 11.54 Am, and immediate rescue operations were launched by local authorities, East Coast Railway officials said.

Suvankar Roy (22) lost his life in the incident. One female passenger suffered grievous injury and two other male passengers are being treated for simple injury, they said.

The ECoR has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased. Similarly, Rs 2.5 lakh will be provided for grievous and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries.

Immediate medical assistance has been provided to the injured passengers, and the necessary compensation has been paid to the victims’ families, the officials informed.

Efforts are underway to restore normalcy to the affected routes as soon as possible. Safety protocols have been strictly followed during the rescue operations, they said.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and wish the injured passengers a speedy recovery. Further updates will be shared as the situation develops,” the ECoR said in a statement.

The railway authority has diverted several trains in view of the train incident.
