CPCB Celebrates 51st Foundation Day

New Delhi: Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) celebrated its 51st Foundation Day at Parivesh Bhawan in New Delhi. The event, which was attended by a diverse group of stakeholders, placed a special focus on the contributions of CPCB under the leadership of its Chairman, Shri Vir Vikram Yadav.

In his address, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, praised CPCB’s credibility and its trusted reports, which are relied upon by courts and citizens alike. The Minister also highlighted the need for environmental regulations to evolve alongside economic growth, a goal that CPCB is actively pursuing.

Shri Bhupender Yadav also emphasized the need for collaboration with academic and research institutions to develop new technologies and expand environmental laboratories across the country. This vision is being championed with the recent inauguration of two new laboratories at CPCB’s Regional Directorates in Pune and Shillong. These state-of-the-art facilities, which were inaugurated as part of the Foundation Day celebrations, will significantly enhance CPCB’s monitoring capabilities. The Pune laboratory can monitor up to 70 environmental parameters and will serve Maharashtra, while the Shillong laboratory, with the capacity to monitor 62 parameters, will cater to the North-Eastern states.

During the event, Shri Bhupender Yadav also laid the foundation stone for CPCB’s new building, Furthermore, two key technical documents were released: a report titled ‘Classification of Polluted River Stretches, 2025’ and a manual on ‘Identification of Non-Polluted and Polluted Stretches and Water Bodies through Freshwater Benthic Macroinvertebrates in India.’ The release of these documents underscores CPCB’s commitment to providing data-driven insights and guidance, a core principle of Chairman Shri Vir Vikram Yadav’s leadership.

The Foundation Day celebrations were a testament to the CPCB’s past achievements and its future direction under the guidance of its Chairman, Shri Vir Vikram Yadav. The event saw the participation of key government officials, including Secretary, MoEFCC, Shri Tanmay Kumar; DG (Forest) & Special Secretary, MoEFCC, Shri Sushil Kumar Awasthi; and Additional Secretary, MoEFCC, Shri Amandeep Garg, along with Board Members of CPCB and representatives from various organizations.
