Bhubaneswar: Though the Covid-19 infection rate has come down in the State, fatalities due to the virus are on a rising trend. The State has reported over 50 deaths since July 5.
Department of Health & FW on Sunday confirmed the death of another 66 persons due to Covid-19. With this, the death toll in the State has crossed 5,000 mark and reached 5,058, today.
According to official data, 23 deaths were reported from Khurda district, eight from Ganjam district and six in Mayurbhanj & Sundargarh districts.
Similarly, five causalities recorded in Boudh district while three deaths occurred in each of Bargarh & Nayagarh, two each in Gajapati, Kendrapara & Puri and one each from Bhadrak, Bolangir, Rayagada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur and Kandhamal.
However, the above list does not reflect deaths occurring on a particular day. It gives details of past deaths for which the death audit process has been duly completed and the cause of death has been identified as due to Covid-19, the Health Department said.
Meanwhile, the State has also reported 2215 fresh Covid-19 infections on Sunday, of which, 1272 cases are from quarantine centres, while the remaining 943 are local contact cases.
Khordha district reported the highest 483 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Cuttack (348), Balaore (150), Jagatsinghpur (126), Jajpur (124), Mayurbhanj (99), Kendrapara (95), Angul (89) and Bhadrak (78). Other districts reported fewer cases. Only one case has been reported from Deogarh district.
So far, 9,54,326 Covid-29 cases have been detected in Odisha, of which 9,27,926 patients have recovered from the disease. The active cases in the State are 21,289.
