Bhubaneswar: For smooth movement of people and other goods to proposed Shree Jagannath International Airport, the State Government has planned for development a dedicated growth corridor from Biju Patnaik International Airport to the proposed Puri Airport.
The Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation (OBCC) has invited tender for development of a detailed development plan for the dedicated growth corridor between Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar and proposed Shree Jagannath International Airport, Puri.
“The project is just in the planning stage. Nothing has been finalised yet. Eying to future requirements, we have floated the tender for development of a detailed plan on this project,” said a senior official of the OBCC here on Monday.
According to sources, an express way like dedicated route will be planned for speedy and unerupted connectivity between the two major and international airports.
For early construction of new greenfield airport at Puri, the State Government has already initiated the process for acquiring private land of 221.480 acres in Brahmagiri tahsil of Puri district.
According to official sources, the Government will acquire 153.370 acres of land in Sipasarubali village and 68.110 acres of land in Sandhapur village under the Brahmagiri tahsil of Puri district.
The State is moving on fast-track mode for the setting up of the proposed international airport. Earlier, the State had submitted its proposal to Centre seeking ‘Site Clearance’ approval for development of the airport.
Meanwhile, the OBCC has decided to purchase 35 AC Electric Minibus and 50 Battery Operated Vehicles (BOVs) to facilitate seamless movement of pilgrims, visitors and citizens within the Puri city.
As the Shree Mandira Parikrama Project (SMPP) at the heritage city of Puri along with a number of other high end infrastructure projects will complete soon, the Government is planning to deploy environment friendly and emission-free vehicles in Puri town for transportation of devotees from parking space, bus stand and other areas to the Jagannath Temple, sources said. —
