Bhubaneswar: Ahead of Rajya Sabha polls for three seats, Corporate Honcho Santrupt Misra joined the Governing BJD here today.
Shri Misra joined the ruling party here in presence of BJD President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, 5T Chairman V K Pandian, organizational Secretary Pranab Prakash Das, Pratap Jena, Pratap Deb and other senior leaders.
Shri Misra resigned as the Director of Group Human Resources at the Aditya Birla Group in December after 27 years in the conglomerate.
“I welcome Santrupt Misra to the Biju Janata Dal. He left an important post in the corporate world to help us in good work,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said.
“I will take up any work assigned to me by the BJD leadership and abide by party discipline. I joined the BJD after being inspired by the ideology, personality and people-oriented work of the chief minister,” the newly joined BJD leader said.
Soon after the joining, Shri Misra was appointed the BJD’s National Spokesperson. The regional party has also appointed senior BJD leader and former minister Sanjay Kumar Dasburma as spokesperson.
Following Shri Misra’s joining in the BJD, speculations rife that the governing party may send him to the Upper House of the Parliament.
Election to the three Rajya Sabha seats in Odisha will be held on February 27 between 9 AM and 4 PM in Odisha Legislative Assembly premises and the counting of votes will be conducted on the very day at 5 PM.
Three MPs, two from the BJD – Prashant Nanda and Amar Patnaik and BJP’s Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, will complete their tenure in the Rajya Sabha in April this year necessitating the conduct of fresh elections to fill up the vacant posts.
