Bhubaneswar: All India Congress Committee (AICC) Monday expelled veteran lawmaker Suresh Kumar Routray from the party on charge of indiscipline and anti-party activities.
AICC General Secretary KC Venggopal in a press release said: “Taking note of the complaints of indiscipline and anti-party activities, the Hon’ble Congress President has approved the expulsion of Shri Suresh Kumar Routray from the party for six years with immediate effect.”
Shri Routray, a six-time MLA from Jatani assembly segment in Khurda district, was accused of campaigning for his son Manmath Routray, who is a BJD candidate from Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha Constituency.
However, the veteran leader has denied allegations.
Earlier, OPCC disciplinary committee had issued a notice to Shri Routray seeking his clarification on the allegations.
As per the allegation, he was seen campaigning for his son and BJD candidate in different parks and playgrounds in Capital City.
Shri Routray had earlier announced not to contest the elections in 2024.
Expulsion of Shri Routray from Congress is likely to jolt the campaign of his son, who is facing firebrand BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi.
