Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) on Saturday conducted ‘marriage ceremonies’ between the BJD and BJP at different parts of the State alleging a “clandestine relationship” between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Governing Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
The grand old party solemnised the marriage of the two parties at a special function in the districts.
The satirical as well as humorous wedding was solemnised at district headquarters with a proper and well-decorated altar. A priest conducted a yajna with marriage mantras. The party even went to the extent of printing invitation cards for the marriage with the date and venue for the same.
At the marriage altar, the BJD and BJP were treated as groom and bride, respectively. Distributing invitation cards to the guests, Congress said both the BJP and BJD have been together since the last 25 years. So, they married them.
The party has adopted the novel way of protest following the nomination of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to Rajya Sabha from Odisha. The BJD has openly supported Vaishnaw’s candidature for the RS poll even though the ruling party has required a number of MLAs to win all three seats of the Upper House.
“BJD and BJP are together and it was once again proved during the ongoing Rajya Sabha election. Neither the BJP central leaders nor the BJD president is making any remark against each other,” said a woman Congress leader.
He said the BJP and the BJD have a tacit understanding due to which the BJP’s Central leadership never attacks the BJD or State Government, she said.
Another Congress leader said the BJP remained silent on several issues including Mamita Meher death, Mahanga double murder and the killing of the then health minister Naba Das.
This apart, Central agencies like the CBI and ED softened their stance towards the state government and BJD despite mining, chit fund and other scams due to the support by BJP, he added.
