Bhubaneswar: While targeting Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik over poor law and order conditions during his regime, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi warned criminal elements not to indulge in any more anti-social activities otherwise the Government has prepared alternative methods for them.
While making a statement in the State Assembly on demand discussion for the Home Department, Shri Majhi said, “The Leader of the Opposition is questioning and seeking an answer from me, but he is not present in the House to listen to my reply. Maybe he has some other important work than the Assembly. That is why he is not present in the House to hear the answer to his question.”
Law and order situation in the state is under control and peace is maintained in the entire State. Recently, the Rath Yatra was completed in a smooth manner, he said.
“Today is 81 days of the new government. In these 81 days, I have reviewed the crime situation of the State two to three times,” the CM said .
“The former chief minister has never paid attention to law and order. We are ahead in all parameters then the previous government. As per NCRB data shows that the crime in the State is constantly increasing as there was no fear in the minds of criminals during the previous government,” he stated.
Shri Majhi said that it is a shame that the conviction rate is very low. He made the previous government fully responsible for this.
“Our police are fully capable of punishing the criminals. But due to lack of political will power, the police was not allowed to do its job properly. Our government is going to take the decision to set up special courts very soon for early trials of cases,” the CM said.
Licenses obtained by criminals under the previous government have already been cancelled. There is no chance of getting a new license, he said.
The Chief Minister appealed to Maoists to leave the path of violence and join the mainstream of society. Otherwise, the government is committed to make the state Maoists free by 2026.
The State Government is adopting a zero tolerance policy against violence against women, he said, adding, “Our government is committed to strengthening the cyber cell of the police department.”
