Bhubaneswar: A high-level state review meeting for District Chief Veterinary Officers was convened at the Krushi Bhawan Auditorium in Bhubaneswar to evaluate and accelerate key schemes under Odisha’s animal husbandry and livestock sector.
The strategic session was presided over by Shri Prem Chandra Chaudhary, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development.
The proceedings centered on aligning departmental execution with the Viksit Odisha Vision 2036 framework championed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. To achieve self-reliance across livestock products and multiply farm incomes, the administration is focusing on a rapid expansion of dairy, poultry, goat, sheep, and piggery farming.
Central to this expansion is the Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, a targeted program offering up to seventy percent financial assistance to over fifteen lakh dairy farmers to support the rearing of high-yielding milch cows and significantly increase milk production.
Alongside dairy initiatives, the department is rolling out the Prani Sampad Samruddhi Yojana with an allocation exceeding one thousand crore rupees to assist lakhs of families through backyard poultry and layer farming.
Infrastructure upgrades form a vital pillar of the broader strategy, backed by investments in new veterinary hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, and animal aid centers across districts, accompanied by dedicated feed testing laboratories. Animal welfare initiatives under the Mukhyamantri Prani Kalyan Yojana are also being deployed to strengthen financial backing for registered gaushalas and stabling facilities.
During the session, instructions were issued to district officers to ensure seamless, accountable, and last-mile delivery of these schemes directly to rural rearers. Departmental leadership emphasized adopting a service-driven approach to foster rural entrepreneurship, implement disease surveillance under a unified health approach, and push Odisha toward becoming a leading state in total milk, egg, and meat output over the coming decade.
It saw active participation from Shri Vijay Amruta Kulange, Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, along with senior state officials and District Chief Veterinary Officers representing all districts.
