CBI Probe Demand On Mamita Murder

Bhubaneswar: As BJP formed Government in the State, the demand for CBI probe into sensational murder of female school teacher Mamita Meher in 2021 again came to fore on Sunday when BJP MLA met the victims’ parents.

BJP MLA Laxman Bag on Sunday met Mamita’s parents at their house at Jharni village which comes under his assembly constituency Kantabanji. During the meeting, Mamita’s father Surendra Meher requested Shri Bag to handover the case to CBI for proper investigation.

Surendra alleged that the investigation into the murder case has been stopped following the death of the main accused Gobinda Sahu in jail.

Though they have been demanding a CBI probe into the murder case, their plea so far has gone unheeded, he said.

“Please allow us to meet the Chief Minister, where we will put forth our prayers,” Surendra said.

Mamita’s mother Tulashi Meher said they urged the new Legislator to provide a job to their son and Shri Bag promised to extend all necessary assistance in this regard.

Speaking to media persons, Shri Bag said, “After being elected as MLA of Kantabanji, my first priority is to give justice to my sister Mamita Meher. For a long time, we have been demanding a CBI probe into the murder case, but the previous BJD government had not listened to it. Now, BJP comes to power and we will again request for a CBI probe.”

Mamita, a private school teacher of Kalahandi district, was murdered in October 2021. After recovering her bones and other body parts from a pit on the school grounds, the police arrested prime accused Gobinda Sahu. Later, the accused allegedly committed suicide inside the Kantabanji sub-jail in mysterious condition.

The BJP, which was the principal opposition party at that time, had organized several protests inside and outside state assembly over the murder case alleging involvement of the then MoS Home and BJD leader D S Mishra. Even Mohan Majhi, who was in the position of BJP Chief Whip, had raised this issue in the Odisha Assembly several times.
