Cuttack:Following an order from DGP Y B Khurania, the Crime Branch has taken over the Gochapada Police Station case registered over mysterious death of a ganja smuggler during police chase.
The Crime Branch took charge of the case for further investigation. DSP Rajat Kumar Ray will lead the investigation into the case, officials said.
The body of Jyestha Bandaki, who was a ‘ganja smuggler’ of Boudh district, was found near Danganamu ghat under Gochapada police station on September 26. Family members of Jyestha alleged that he was killed by police and mater, the police dumped his body in the ghat and fled from the spot with his motorcycle.
Taking the case seriously, the Kandhamal SP had suspended an ASI and a havildar and disengaged three home guards, who were on duty at the spot on September 26.
According to police, the cops were conducting MV checking near the ghat on that day. At that time, Jyestha along with another man crossed the spot without stopping the vehicle.
When a police van chased them, the duo ran away to the forest after leaving the motorcycle in the middle of the road. The police team returned to the police station with the bike.
Later the dead body of the person was recovered. After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to his family members, they said.
