Bhubaneswar: Though it is mid-March, maximum places of Odisha especially western region started witnessing severe heat wave condition with mercury shot up to 43.6 degrees Celsius at Boudh town today.

At least seven places of Odisha including Boudh recorded a maximum temperature of over 40 degrees Celsius during the day.

As per a weather bulletin of Bhubaneswar meteorological centre, Jharsuguda town was the second hottest place of the state with 42 degrees Celsius while Bolangir sizzled with 41.7 degrees.

The other places which recorded day temperatures of over 40 degrees are—Angul (41.1), Titlagarh (40.5), Sundargarh (40.3), and Bhawanipatna (40.2).

The maximum temperature at Bhubaneswar and Cuttack was 36.8 degrees and 37 degrees, respectively, it said.

Forecasting heatwave conditions for another two days, the weather office has issued a red warning (take action) for Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Kalahandi for Monday.

Similarly, Orange warning (be prepared) has been issued for Sundargarh, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Boudh, & Balangir districts and yellow warning (Be aware) for Keonjhargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal & Mayurbhanj districts for the day.

Besides, some places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati would experience hot and humid weather condition on Monday, the IMD centre said.

The night would be warm in Balangir, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur and Boudh district on Monday night.

However, the people expected to get relief from the heat wave as the weather department forecast thunderstorms with lightning for four days from March 19.

The IMD advised people to avoid prolonged heat exposure and not to leave children or pets in parked vehicles.

It suggested people going for rallies/ gatherings to take necessary precautions to avoid prolonged exposure in high humid & temperature areas.

Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks, which dehydrates the body and avoid high-protein food and do not eat stale food. Keep live-stocks in cool & shade place and arrange drinking water for them, the weather office’s advisory said.
