Blueprint For Disaster Proof Infra

Bhubaneswar:Odisha is set to leverage the power of modern technology and artificial intelligence to construct robust, disaster-resilient infrastructure, a critical step for the geographically vulnerable state. This commitment was articulated today by Shri Prithviraj Harichandan, Minister of Works, Law and Excise, during the Executive Committee Meeting and Technical Workshop of the Indian Building Congress (IBC), held here and organized by the state government’s Works Department and the IBC.

Minister Shri Harichandan, the chief guest at the event, emphasized that Odisha’s susceptibility to natural calamities such as floods, cyclones, and earthquakes necessitates that all future infrastructure projects be built with disaster resistance and equipped with advanced systems. He urged engineers present at the meeting to prioritize environmentally sustainable construction methods, integrating cutting-edge technology into their designs and execution.

Recognizing the era of modern technology where “many impossible tasks can be done in a short time” with AI and various technologies, the Minister highlighted the state government’s consistent focus on building advanced infrastructure. With major projects, including an underground metro, slated for implementation in Odisha, Shri Harichandan stressed the importance of utilizing the most advanced technology and efficient waste management practices during their construction. He also advocated for regular training programs to enhance the skills and performance of engineers.

The event saw a warm welcome address from Bijay Chandra Tripathi, President of the IBC Odisha Chapter. C. Debnath, President of IBC, New Delhi, and O.P. Goel, Foundation President, shared their insights on the IBC’s role, emphasizing the importance of regular workshops for skill enhancement, knowledge sharing among engineers, and the adoption of new technologies.

A significant highlight of the workshop was a presentation by M. Murugesan, who addressed the challenges inherent in underground metro projects and explored the application of alternative designs.

The program concluded with the release of a souvenir by chief guest Shri Harichandan, who also felicitated eminent personalities. Shri V. R. Bansal, Editor of IBC, delivered the vote of thanks. This concerted effort underscores Odisha’s proactive approach to building a more resilient future through technological innovation in infrastructure development.
