Nuapada: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) officially launched its campaign for the upcoming Nuapada Assembly bye-election today with a prayer ceremony at the revered Banjari Devi Temple.
The inaugural meeting was presided over by BJD Senior Vice President, Shri Debi Prasad Mishra and marked the formal beginning of the BJD’s campaign. Smt. Snehangini Chhuria reaffirmed her commitment to the all-round development of the constituency, stating that her journey for Nuapada’s progress had officially begun.
She emphasized the Biju Janata Dal’s legacy of selfless service and people-centric governance under the visionary leadership of Shri Naveen Patnaik. She also reminded the gathering that Nuapada district was created during the tenure of Biju Patnaik, whose foresight is still remembered with deep respect.

Key speakers at the meeting included BJD Nuapada District President Shri Abani Ranjan Joshi, MLA Shri Adhiraj Mohan Panigrahi, General Secretary Shri Manoj Mishra, and Senior Leaders Shri Bijaya Nayak and Shri Bhanu Pratap Singh Majhi. Other senior BJD leaders present included Shri Ramesh Majhi, Shri Manohar Randhari, Shri Ramesh Behera, Smt. Sarswati Bag, and Smt. Sephanli Sharma.
The meeting featured strong criticism of the BJP-led state government. Speakers accused the “double engine government” of causing “double destruction” to Nuapada over the past 16 months. Leaders alleged that the BJP has neglected essential infrastructure, welfare initiatives, and development schemes, asserting that the people of Nuapada have suffered due to the BJP’s inefficiency and insensitivity toward local issues.
Earlier in the day, a Tribal Convention was held at Adivasi Samaj Bhawan, Tanuat, Nuapada, which saw the participation of a large number of tribal leaders and community members. During the convention, many prominent leaders from the BJP and Congress formally joined the Biju Janata Dal, expressing faith in Shri Naveen Patnaik’s leadership and the party’s commitment to tribal welfare.
Addressing this gathering, Senior Vice President, Shri Debi Prasad Mishra stated that the real development of tribal communities, including a focus on education, health, livelihood, and social justice, has occurred only under the leadership of Shri Naveen Patnaik.
Smt. Snehangini Chhuria voiced serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of tribals under the present BJP government, citing increasing incidents of violence, exploitation, and atrocities, including cases of sexual assault in tribal school hostels. She reiterated the BJD’s commitment to fighting for the dignity, safety, and rights of tribal people.
The Biju Janata Dal reaffirmed its dedication to the holistic development of Nuapada, emphasizing that the district’s future is tied to the continuity of progressive governance and the welfare-oriented vision of Shri Naveen Patnaik.
The party called upon the public to unite behind the BJD to ensure sustained peace, prosperity, and progress for all sections of society, said Dr. Priyabrata Majhi, Media Co-ordinator for the Biju Janata Dal.
