BJD Memo On NH Shooting

Baripada: Leaders and representatives of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), led by District President Sudam Marndi, today presented a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police (SP) Mayurbhanj.

Opposition Members were, demanding swift and stern action against criminals responsible for a recent daylight shooting on NH-18. The incident, which occurred near Asanjoada, Baripada, saw a young man, Sibananda Barik, critically injured after being shot multiple times by five to six armed assailants.

According to the memorandum, Shri Barik was reportedly en route to deposit cash at a bank when he was ambushed. The attackers fled the scene only after intervention by alert locals. The BJD emphasized that this “brazen act of violence in a public area” has instilled fear and unrest among residents and commuters, particularly those who rely on NH-18, a crucial link connecting Mayurbayurbhanj to the rest of Odisha and beyond.

The party highlighted that the attack, believed to be a robbery attempt, underscores growing concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the district.

The BJD’s representation to the SP Mayurbhanj, spearheaded by Sudam Marndi, reflects the public’s demand for immediate and decisive measures to apprehend the culprits and ensure the safety and security of citizens.
