BJD Creates Din In Assembly

Bhubaneswar: The Opposition BJD MLAs today created a ruckus in the State Legislative Assembly forcing the Speaker to adjourn the proceedings till 4 PM.

The Question Hour of the Assembly passed smoothly with active participation from the members of both Opposition and Treasury benches.

However, BJD members rushed to the well of the House and created a noisy scene during the Zero Hour as the Speaker did not allow discussion on their adjournment motion on alleged stoppage of developmental works in all 314 blocks.

On the other hand, Congress Legislators staged a walk out from the Assembly before BJD members created ruckus in the House.

The Congress MLAs were demanding ruling from the chair for enchantment of quota for SC, ST and OBC in medical and other higher studies.

As the Speaker did not pay any heed to their plea, the Congress MLAs staged a walk out and moved to Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor.

Speaking to media persons outside the House, BJD MLA Arun Sahoo alleged that people of over 50,000 villages are aggrieved as the government is showing no interest in taking up the development works.

“An unwritten notification has been issued, asking the authorities concerned not to take up the works started by the previous government. We have given three adjournment notices and those have been rejected as the government is reluctant to discuss the issue,” he alleged.

Another BJD MLA Ganeswar Behera too supported him and demanded the Speaker to allow discussion on their topic.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling said the topic brought by the BJD members was not specific. The Speaker’s decision in the House is final and every one should follow it, he said.

Speaker Surama Padhy said she cannot allow discussion on the topic as it is neither ‘specific’ nor related to a ‘recent occurrence’.

As the BJD members created a noisy scenario in the well of the House, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings till 4 PM.
