Bhubaneswar: Renowned Odia film actress and ex-wife of Kendrapara MP Anubhav Mohanty, Barsha Priyadarshini today joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) here.
After Anubhav resigned from BJD and joined BJP, his former wife Barsha joined the BJD at a programme held at Sankha Bhawan, in the presence of leaders including Sasmit Patra.
“Since the day I knew Naveen Patnaik, I have become his fan. The big thing about him is that he is a very simple man who talks less and works more,” the actress-turned politician said.
On the other hand, former BJD MLA Sipra Mallick today joined the Congress party here at Congress Bhawan, Bhubaneswar in the presence of senior leaders Prasad Harichandan and Panchanan Kanungo.
Shrimati Mallick expressed her happiness after joining Congress, the party in which her father had started his political career. She pledged to work towards strengthening the Congress.
When asked about her chances of receiving a party ticket, Shrimati Mallick replied that she is hopeful to get in Kendrapada Assembly seat, but the decision was up to the party leadership.
Shrimati Mallick had been elected to the Odisha Assembly in 2009 on a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ticket. Her father Prahlad Mallick was a veteran Congress leader who served as a Minister in the state.
