Cuttack: Excise Commissioner Narasingha Bhol dismissed today Excise Constable Deepak Panigarahi from his jobs for illegal ganja business. Order of the Excise Commissioner is effective immediately.
According to the information of excise department, Deepak Panigrahi, who works as a constable in Rayagada district excise department, was arrested by Rayagada town police station on March 14, 2023, on the charge of being involved in illegal ganja business. More than 42 kg of ganja was seized from his rented house. He was immediately arrested and a case was registered against him under the NDPS Act, 1985 and he was send to judicial custody on the same day.
Charges were framed against the constable who was arrested on 18 July, 2023. In charge frame shows that he was accused of violating the Odisha Public Service Act, 1959 and dealing in illegal ganja. Meanwhile, in the report given by the Rayagada excise superintendent, that, Constable Deepak was in judicial custody and a criminal investigation was underway against him.
Constable Deepak with official dress has not only disgraced the excise department but has sent a bad message to the entire society when he was arrested for dealing in illegal narcotics like ganja. Similarly, since March 14, 2023, as he is in judicial custody it was said that no further investigation is required against him.
The State Excise Commissioner has the power to appoint, transfer and manage all kinds of cadres of Excise Constable, and he also has the power to dismiss constable from their jobs as per the resolution of the excise department on June 8, 2023. By virtue of that power, the Excise Commissioner Shri Bhol today dismissed the said Excise Constable from the Service. Accordingly, the constable Shri Panigarahi has been relieved from the job immediately.
