Bhubaneswar: The State Legislative Assembly on Monday passed a resolution unanimously congratulating Shrimati Droupadi Murmu for assuming the highest constitutional post of India.
Smt.Murmu, who took oath as 15th President of India on Monday, is a former Member of the Assembly and a native of the Mayurbhanj district.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Niranjan Pujari moved the resolution which was supported by all MLAs of the House. Mr.Pujari also proposed to send a House committee to New Delhi to felicitate the new President.
Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha has informed that he would consider the proposal for felicitation of Smt.Murmu by the MLAs in New Delhi in due course of time.
It is a welcome step that an all-party MLA led by the Speaker will visit New Delhi and felicitate Smt.Murmu, said Congress MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati.
“Myself and my party has whole heartly supported the resolution passed in the House today. Odisha will definitely get benefit from this,” said BJP Deputy Leader Bishnu Charan Sethi.
