Assembly Begins From 18 Sept.

Bhubaneswar: The Monsoon Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly is set to begin on Wednesday, September 18, and will continue until September 25, according to an official notification from the Assembly Secretariat. The short, seven-day session is expected to be contentious as opposition parties prepare to raise a number of key issues.

The Opposition, including the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Congress, is gearing up to corner the Governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government on several sensitive matters.

Issues expected to dominate the debates include recent cases of crimes against women, such as the death of a student at FM College and a gang rape incident in Gopalpur. The ongoing Mahanadi river water dispute with Chhattisgarh is also high on the agenda.

Other topics slated for discussion are the alleged question paper leak in the OTET examination, a delay in student union elections, and compensation for flood victims. The opposition is also expected to question the government on its achievements in the 14 months since it took power.

In response, the state government is preparing to introduce and pass several significant bills during the session. With both sides ready for a heated showdown, the Monsoon Session is anticipated to be a dynamic and consequential period in the state’s legislative calendar.
