Bhubaneswar: In a vibrant celebration of Independence Day, Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi addressed the “Bharatiyam” patriotic music festival at Rabindra Mandap, underscoring the vital role of artists and writers in shaping national consciousness.
The event, organized by the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department, saw the Chief Minister as the chief guest. He began by inaugurating a photo and art exhibition related to the Tricolor Campaign before addressing the esteemed gathering.
Law, Works and Excise Minister Shri Prithviraj Harichandan, MLA Shri Babu Singh, Chief Minister’s consort Dr. Priyanka Marndi, Odia Language, Literature and Culture, Secretary Dr.Bijay Ketan Upadhyay graced the occasion.

In his speech, Chief Minister Shri Majhi emphasized that societal change often finds its first expression through the works of writers, lyricists, and artists. He noted the powerful impact of patriotic poetry and music during India’s freedom struggle, stating that it “ignited the flame of patriotism” and awakened a sense of nationalism in every Indian.
He specifically cited how the song ‘Vande Mataram’ was so powerful that it made the “strong walls of the British government” shake.
Secretary Odia Language, Literature and Culture, Dr.Bijaya Ketan Upadhyay honoured the diginitaries with momentos.

He described music as a unique and eternal art form that transcends language barriers, capable of telling a long story in just a few lines. The Chief Minister appealed to the new generation of musicians to use their talent responsibly, steering clear of works that could hurt religious or communal sentiments.

Concluding his address, the Chief Minister highlighted the festival’s theme, stating that despite the diversity of the songs performed, the true “raga” of the evening was “Bharatiyam” and the “rhythm” was “Bharatiyata.” He said these concepts teach citizens to take pride in their culture and traditions while taking responsibility for society and the country.
The festival featured performances by over 15 renowned vocalists, including Kailash Sahu, Nazia Alam, and Subhash Ram, who captivated the audience with a series of inspiring patriotic songs.
