Bhubaneswar: Hours after resigning from the Governing Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Popular Odia actor Arindam Roy formally joined the opposition BJP.
Arindam, who is also a close relative of BJD organising secretary Pranab Prakash Das, joined the BJP in presence of State President Manmohan Samal and other senior leaders.
Speaking to the media, Shri Roy said he will work for the BJP as a disciplined worker and will try to take Odisha forward and fulfil the dreams of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Everybody is inspired and touched by the Prime Minister. I worked for a long time for the BJD and the functioning of the party is not up to the mark now. The working culture in the BJD has changed a lot and I felt that there is no scope for me to work there,” he said.
Shri Roy resigned from the post of General Secretary, BJD and the Primary Membership of the ruling party. In his resignation letter, Arindam stated that he worked for the BJD since 2009 and was the party’s star campaigner since 2014.
“But with a heavy heart I am very sorry to say that my work has not yet been recognized by you or your appointed members. I have been trying to meet my leader, which is you, for quite some time, but unfortunately I did not get the opportunity to meet you,” he mentioned his dissatisfaction in the letter.
Earlier in the day, former Gunupur MLA Trinath Gomango also joined the BJP in presence of the State President Manmohan Samal and Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahi.
Shri Roy is not the first leader, who resigned from BJD and joined the BJP. Three sitting MLAs – Pradeep Panigrahi, Prashant Jagdev and Arabinda Dhali- have recently joined the BJP after.
