Bhubaneswar: With a No Nonsense PCCF Wildlife Susanta Nanda at the helm Team Wildlife have arrested another poacher.
A day after poachers opened fire on forest officials inside Kuldiha Sanctuary, the State Wildlife Organization swung into action and arrested another poacher from the protested Kuldiha.
With assistance from police personnel of Nilgiri, Balasore, one person from the buffer area of Kuldiha Sanctuary was arrested by forest staff, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Wildlife Susanta Nanda said today.
Three country-made guns, two half-made ones and other materials used for poaching were seized, he said on social media site X.
Praising the effort of the enforcement team, the PCCF Wildlife Shri Nanda said that the drive against poachers would continue.
The PCCF has earlier informed that a joint team comprising Special Tiger Protection Force and Ex-Army personnel will intensify combing operations in Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary from today. Nanda had asked poachers to surrender arms otherwise face legal action.
At least two members of the Forest Department’s anti-poaching squad were injured when poachers fired at them in the Kuldiha forests during the early hours of Tuesday.
On March 19 at about 2 AM, staff of the Kuldiha forest range under the Balasore division came across two poachers inside the Kuldiha sanctuary. They have been arrested, Nanda said.
The injured forest personnel were first rushed to Balasore district headquarters hospital. However, they were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Two poachers have been arrested, rifles seized.
