Bhubaneswar: With intense heat wave condition prevailing across Odisha with mercury stood up to 43.5 degrees Celsius at Capital City on on 5 April, Special Relief Commissioner & Additional Chief Secretary Revenue & Disaster Management, Sataybrata Sahu took a detailed review of the situation.
Accordingly, ACS Shri Sahu directed officials to alert the departments concern to take up precautionary measures.
On the line of advise of SRC, the office of SRC today asked the Sports Department to restrict outdoor sports activities from 11 am to 3 pm as a precautionary measure.
Additional Special Relief Commissioner has written a letter to the Director, Sports & Youth Services in this regard.
The additional SRC said that the Government has noticed that outdoor game activities like cricket, football, hockey, etc. are going on during hot summer in many areas of the State.
As per the forecast of the IMD, Bhubaneswar, Hot & Humid discomfort weather conditions and heat waves are likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha. In this regard, people have been advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11 AM to 3 PM, he said.
The maximum temperature is likely to be 39°Celsius to 41°Celsius in the interior parts and between 36°C to 38°C in coastal districts of the State. The relative humidity remains in the range of 40% to 60% over coastal Odisha and between 20% to 40% over interior districts of Odisha, he further said.
Keeping in view of the weather conditions, the additional SRC asked the Sports Director to take precautionary measures and restrict all outdoor game activities like cricket, football, hockey, etc. during hot summer.
Strict enforcement shall be made on the restrictions of all outdoor sports activities stated above, he added.
Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in Odisha during the next two days.
“Due to the upcoming likely interaction of the trough aloft in middle & upper tropospheric westerlies and hot & humid air from bay of Bengal, Odisha is likely to receive rain/thunderstorm and lightning associated with gusty wind during next two days,” the IMD said in a bulletin.
MET Office said that hailstorms would occur at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, and Cuttack on April 7. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Khurda, Boudh, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, and Nayagarh.
Light to moderate rain and thunder shower will occur at a few places over the districts of North Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of South Odisha tomorrow.
Various places of Kandhamal, Ganjam, and Kalahandi districts would receive heavy rainfall on April 8. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH would occur in the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri tomorrow.
Besides, light to moderate rainfall would occur at many places over the districts of North Interior Odisha, South Odisha & at a few places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha, Met Office pointed out.
