New Delhi: The Government of India is currently playing host to a landmark shift in the technological landscape as the India AI Impact Summit 2026 opens at Bharat Mandapam, marking the first time the Global South has led a convening of this magnitude.
This five-day event, running from February 16 to 20, positions India as a central architect in the global conversation on artificial intelligence, moving beyond mere theory to focus on tangible delivery.
By gathering heads of state, tech titans, and academic pioneers, the summit aims to bridge the gap between high-level policy and the practical needs of developing nations, ensuring that the future of AI is rooted in inclusive growth and sustainable development.
The scale of the gathering is reflected in the participation of over 100 government representatives and 500 global AI leaders, including CEOs and researchers. While the summit covers a broad range of thematic areas—from economic growth to safe and trusted AI—a significant highlight is the culmination of three flagship challenges: AI for ALL, AI by HER, and YUVAi.
These competitions have drawn thousands of applications from across 60 countries, showcasing 70 finalist teams who are presenting scalable innovations designed to solve real-world problems. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to deliver the inaugural address on February 19, further cementing the nation’s vision for a responsible and people-centric digital evolution.
Academic rigor is also a cornerstone of the week’s agenda, highlighted by a Research Symposium held in partnership with IIT Hyderabad. This platform has attracted hundreds of submissions from Africa, Asia, and Latin America, focusing on equitable access to computing power and governance frameworks that protect users without stifling progress.
As the summit progresses through its thematic working groups, the ultimate goal remains a transition from dialogue to delivery, establishing shared global standards that prioritize progress for both the planet and its people.
