Bhubaneswar: With the upcoming Bahuda Jatra and Sunabesha 2025, Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Satyabrata Sahu today convened a crucial meeting with the General Manager of East Coast Railway, Bhubaneswar, to meticulously review crowd management and passenger safety protocols at Puri Railway Station.
The high-level meeting, attended by the DGP, ADGs, and other senior officers, underscored the state government’s paramount concern for the safety and smooth experience of lakhs of devotees expected to descend upon Puri.
Shri Sahu, an ardent devotee of Lord Jagannath has emphasized the immense responsibility of ensuring the well-being of devotees, particularly given the anticipated surge in footfall for the return car festival (Bahuda Jatra on July 4, 2025) and the sacred Suna Besha (Golden Attire) ritual on July 5, 2025.
He highlighted the need for seamless coordination between East Coast Railway authorities and State Police to prevent overcrowding, facilitate orderly movement, and provide immediate assistance in case of any exigency.
Discussions focused on a comprehensive strategy, including enhanced security measures, efficient deployment of personnel, and effective communication channels.
Sources indicate that measures like dedicated pilgrim waiting areas, increased medical facilities, clear signage, and robust public address systems are being prioritized.
The ACS Home stressed the importance of real-time crowd estimation using modern technology to anticipate and manage peak periods effectively.
The meeting comes in the wake of recent concerns regarding crowd management during the ongoing Rath Yatra festivities, making the review for Bahuda Jatra and Sunabesha even more critical.
ACS Shri Sahu reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and spiritually enriching experience for all devotees, urging all stakeholders to work in complete synergy with a “devotee-centric” approach.
The collaboration between the Home Department and East Coast Railway aims to build on existing arrangements and implement any necessary improvements to ensure the successful and safe conduct of these significant rituals.
