New Delhi: Shri Narendra Bhooshan, a 1992-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has officially assumed charge as the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. He succeeds Shri Tanmay Kumar following his superannuation.
Bringing more than three decades of extensive administrative experience spanning both the Central and State Governments, Shri Bhooshan steps into the role with a multidisciplinary background.
His career features significant contributions across critical sectors including energy, infrastructure, agriculture, urban development, finance, and land-resource management.
Prior to taking over the environment portfolio, he served as the Secretary of the Department of Land Resources under the Ministry of Rural Development. Throughout his tenure in the Uttar Pradesh cadre, he has held numerous high-ranking administrative positions, such as Additional Chief Secretary for Energy and Additional Energy Sources, alongside roles handling technical education.
His extensive state-level portfolio also includes serving as Principal Secretary for departments spanning public works, infrastructure and industries development, information technology and electronics, science and technology, and panchayati raj.
Academically, Shri Bhooshan holds a degree in electronics and communications alongside a master degree in international development policy from Duke University in the United States.
His specialized professional training includes targeted programs covering public finance, infrastructure development, and climate-change preparedness.
His cross-sector expertise is expected to steer the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives in environmental governance, forest conservation, and the management of complex climate-related challenges.
