Bhubaneswar: On the auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti today, the Odisha Construction Corporation Limited organised a vibrant statewide Walkathon themed “Walk for a Better Tomorrow” at Ekamra Kanan, bringing together leaders, engineers, and workforce members to champion physical fitness, discipline, and collective responsibility.
The event drew inspiration from the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, whose commitment to holistic youth empowerment and robust physical well-being forms a cornerstone of the roadmap toward the Viksit Odisha 2036 vision. Aligning with this transformative agenda, Er. Bighnaraj Purohit, Engineer-in-Chief-cum-Special Secretary of the Department of Water Resources, is actively spearheading sports initiatives and physical wellness programs across the water resource sector.
By fostering athletic engagement and stamina among professionals, Er. Purohit, who is also the Managing Director of OCCL is driving a strategic push to cultivate a high-performance workforce dedicated to building a prosperous and self-reliant state.

Emphasizing the vital synergy between physical vitality and professional excellence, the Walkathon resonated with the powerful central message, “Fit to Think, Fit to Plan, Fit to Build and Fit for the Nation.” The initiative underscored how a healthy, active workforce directly translates to sharper strategic planning, efficient execution of critical infrastructure projects, and enduring contributions to nation-building.
The grand event was jointly inaugurated by Er. Bighnaraj Purohit and Aviation Director Shri Rashmi Ranjan Nayak. They were joined by the Director of WALMI, Chief Engineers of the Department, alongside senior officers and employees of OCCL.
Demonstrating widespread solidarity and enthusiasm for the wellness drive, the Walkathon was conducted simultaneously at OCCL Head Office in Bhubaneswar and key project offices across diverse districts, including Sambalpur, Malkangiri, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Koraput, and Cuttack.
Through active participation across these regional hubs, employees reinforced a shared commitment to maintaining active lifestyles, fostering teamwork, and driving sustainable regional development.
