Bhubaneswar: Odisha Power Generation Corporation Limited (OPGC) has received financial assistance worth 5.25 crore rupees under the Odisha State Energy Conservation Fund (OSECF).
Disbursed by the Electrical Inspectorate Council (Electricity) cum Principal Chief Electrical Inspector & State Designated Agency (SDA), this capital injection will support targeted interventions to optimize power consumption, reduce carbon footprints, and scale up institutional energy efficiency across plant operations.
The development highlights a broader structural transformation underway across the power ecosystem in Odisha. Under the leadership of Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, Additional Chief Secretary of Energy & E&IT and Chairman of OPGC, the state is advancing a strategy balanced between baseline grid stability and large-scale renewable integration.
Odisha has established a target of 11 GW in renewable energy capacity by 2030, supported by the approval of 16 clean energy initiatives valued at nearly 2 lakh crore rupees. Capital investments are flowing across several fronts:
State policy frameworks are incentivizing heavy energy users to adopt modern efficiency standards, with dedicated allocations like the OSECF supporting thermal utility modernization.
The state is establishing two specialized green hydrogen hubs in Gopalpur and Paradip, leveraging coastal logistical access to serve export and domestic decarbonization requirements.
To manage grid variability from increasing solar and wind capacity, power authorities are deploying multi-location Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) alongside pumped hydro energy storage projects using the state’s deep hydro capacity reserve.
Upward of 30,000 crore rupees is earmarked for transmission and distribution grid upgrades to streamline inter-state clean power exports and handle rising industrial loads.
These capital outlays and structured conservation measures demonstrate how state energy institutions are shifting from conventional generation models toward a modernized, energy-efficient, and resilient power network.
