Bhubaneswar: A weather update issued by the India Meteorological Department reports that the Deep Depression positioned over north coastal Andhra Pradesh moved in a northwestward direction at a speed of 7 kmph over the past six hours.
As of 0830 hrs IST today, 24th September 2026, the system was centered over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and the adjoining region of south Odisha. Its coordinates were recorded near latitude 18.5°N and longitude 83.5°E. This places the center approximately 70 km west-northwest of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, 80 km south-southeast of Rayagada in Odisha, 90 km east-southeast of Koraput in Odisha, and 170 km east-southeast of Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh.
The meteorological forecast indicates that the system is very likely to maintain its north-northwestward trajectory while gradually losing strength. It is expected to weaken into a Depression by the evening of 24th September. Following this, the system will continue moving north-northwestward across the region and weaken further over the subsequent 24 hours.
Residents and administrative authorities in the affected regions of north coastal Andhra Pradesh, south Odisha, and southern Chhattisgarh should remain prepared for widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall, localized flooding in low-lying areas, and elevated surface wind speeds associated with the passing system as it moves inland.
