Bhubaneswar: In a sweeping showcase of women leading the frontlines of governance, female administrators have taken center stage in the latest round of promotions to the Indian Administrative Service(IAS) from Odisha. Out of fourteen officers elevated from the Odisha Administrative Service(OAS), eight are women—achieving fifty-seven percent representation at the very peak of State Administrative leadership.
The official notification, issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, carries a fascinating story within its pages. Two of the women promoted share the exact same name: Madhumita Nayak. Born just a few months apart in 1970—one on April 22 and the other on November 7—these two distinct officers now step into the IAS cadre side-by-side, creating a delightful double-take on the official list.
Joining the two Madhumita Nayaks in this impressive milestone are Sumita Sarkar, Soudamini Sethi, Jyotirmayee Pradhan, Babita Mohanty, Subhra Mohanty,and Sanghamitra Satpathy. Together, they represent a strong, experienced cohort of female leaders who have spent decades navigating State Administration and are now taking on national-level responsibilities allocated directly to the Odisha Cadre.
They will serve alongside their male colleagues—Surya Narayan Dash, Balamakunda Bhuyan, Anuj Kumar Das Pattanaik, Jyotiranjan Mishra, Surendra Kumar Panda, and Himansu Sekhar Behera—who are also stepping into the prestigious ranks.
For these seasoned women administrators, this promotion on probation is the ultimate validation of a long career dedicated to public service. As they prepare to undergo formal training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie, their milestone marks a major step forward for women steering policy, administration, and executive power in Odisha.
