DIGP Meena Takes Northern Range Charge

Sambalpur: Senior Top Cop Shri Charan Singh Meena formally assumed office as the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Northern Range in Sambalpur.

Shri Meena an Indian Police Service officer belonging to the 2009 batch of the Odisha cadre. Prior to his current assignment in Sambalpur, he served as the Deputy Inspector General of Police for Provisioning in Odisha Police.

An honest, hard working and tough cop Shri Meena took charge from Shri Himanshu Kumar Lal, IGP, who will take over as IGP EOW and STF.

Shri Meena’s career includes previous impactful tenures as DIGP Central Range, South West Range, DIG Fire Services, Superintendent of Police in districts like Bhadrak and Jajpur, earning recognition for his administrative competence and focus on maintaining public order.

Ahead of assuming his official responsibilities, Shri Meena offered prayers and sought blessings at the revered Maa Samaleswari temple before officially taking over charge at noon and expressing sincere gratitude to the Odisha Government for entrusting him with this significant regional command.

Interacting with media persons right after taking over his office, Shri Meena outlined his core administrative agenda and policing priorities for the Northern Range, emphasizing that maintaining law and order, intensifying crime control, and safeguarding the security of women and children remain at the top of his agenda.

Addressing specific regional challenges, he committed to initiating strict and uncompromising actions against the illegal narcotics and drug trade operating within the range, while also drawing special attention to cybercrime as a prominent contemporary threat by announcing plans to upgrade the technical skills of police personnel alongside intensifying public awareness programs.

Concluding his interaction, DIGP Shri Meena assured the public that the police force under his leadership would maintain an accessible, sensitive, and accountable approach towards all citizens, and he appealed for active cooperation from local media and residents to successfully preserve regional peace and foster a crime-free society.
