Bhubaneswar: The Government of Odisha has reiterated its unwavering commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and absolute compliance with legal frameworks in land registration operations across the state. With a clear focus on eliminating corruption and streamlining citizen-centric services, the administration is leveraging technology alongside rigorous administrative oversight to protect public interests.
The state leadership has set a strong tone for upright governance in the sector. Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management Shri Suresh Pujari, alongside Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, has consistently emphasized integrity and structural reforms to modernize revenue administration. Known for their clean track record and principled approach to public service, both leaders have prioritized systematic checks to prevent fraudulent practices in land registration offices.
Taking strict note of procedural lapses, the Revenue and Disaster Management Department recently cracked down on serious land registration fraud in Nuapada district. Following preliminary inquiries into illegal deeds facilitated in collusion with vested interests, the state government suspended Shri Sarbeswar Jaal, the Tahsildar of Komna who was also discharging the duties of Sub-Registrar. The swift disciplinary action was initiated immediately after Nuapada District Collector reported the matter to higher authorities.
In the wake of the incident, ACS Dr. Padhee issued explicit instructions to all District Collectors across Odisha to maintain strict vigil over land registration units within their jurisdictions. District Collectors have been directed to ensure that Additional District Magistrates, functioning as District Registrars, conduct regular monitoring of registration activities. Furthermore, Collectors have been mandated to carry out surprise inspections and audits of local registration offices to identify and preempt irregularities at the initial stage.
The administration has made it clear that technological integration will serve as the backbone for public accountability in real estate transactions. Emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance against malpractice, the department has instructed field officers to strictly adhere to statutory guidelines, ensuring that any official found compromising revenue procedures will face severe administrative and legal consequences.
