Bhubaneswar: In a substantial recognition of exemplary leadership, integrity, and dedicated public service, senior Indian Police Service officer Shri Sanjeeb Kumar Panda has been promoted to the rank of Director General of Police in Odisha. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved the elevation proposal of the distinguished officer, acknowledging his outstanding contributions toward maintaining law and order and safeguarding the state.
Belonging to the 1994 batch of the Odisha IPS cadre, Shri Sanjeeb Kumar Panda brings an exceptional academic and professional background to his high-ranking profile. An IIT alumnus, he cleared the UPSC civil services examination to join the force and quickly distinguished himself through his analytical rigor and administrative discipline. Over three decades of service, he has held vital positions across the state police apparatus, including Superintendent of Police in sensitive districts, Transport Commissioner, Inspector General of Coastal Security, ADG of Crime Branch, Director of Intelligence, and Police Commissioner for the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Throughout his unblemished career, he has been decorated with prestigious honors including the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
Widely known across administrative and public spheres as a tough, honest, and hardworking cop, Shri Panda has built a sterling reputation for uncompromising ethics and administrative brilliance. In his recent assignment heading Anti-Maoist Operations and the Special Intelligence Wing, he played a pivotal role in crippling the operational networks of Left-Wing Extremism across red corridors. Under his dynamic operational leadership and tactical intelligence planning, security forces achieved decisive breakthroughs in neutralizing insurgent strongholds and restoring peace in affected rural and tribal belts.
This relentless campaign aligns directly with the nation-wide mandate set by Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, who established a firm deadline of 31 March 2026 to completely eradicate Maoist insurgency from India. Shri Panda’s steadfast execution on the ground has accelerated Odisha’s progress toward this target, making the state a frontrunner in achieving a Naxal-free reality.
His elevation to the apex rank of DGP stands as a testament to his sincere commitment, strategic vision, and selfless service to the nation.
