New Delhi: Shri Pralhad Joshi has been entrusted with additional administrative responsibilities of Ministry of Education in the Union Cabinet following a key official reshuffle.
Shri Joshi, who currently serves as the Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution as well as the Minister of New and Renewable Energy, has been assigned additional charge of the Ministry of Education.
This expansion of his duties comes after the President of India accepted the resignation of Shri Dharmendra Pradhan from the Union Council of Ministers with immediate effect.
The executive action was taken on the official advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in accordance with clause two of Article 75 of the Constitution of India, which governs the tenure and appointment of Union ministers.
With this strategic cabinet update, Shri Joshi will now simultaneously manage three critical portfolios within the central government. Alongside his existing responsibilities of overseeing public distribution systems, consumer welfare, and clean energy initiatives, he will now guide national educational policies, academic frameworks, and institutional developments.
Under the framework of the Indian Constitution, members of the Council of Ministers hold office at the pleasure of the President, allowing cabinet responsibilities to be reassigned based on executive recommendations.
Following the official press communique issued from Rashtrapati Bhavan, the portfolio reallocation takes effect immediately, ensuring a uninterrupted leadership transition across all affected ministries.
This decision was executed under the constitutional provisions of clause two of Article 75, which establishes the terms and tenure of Union ministers.
To maintain steady governance within the central administration, Cabinet Minister Pralhad Joshi will now hold charge of the Ministry of Education alongside his existing portfolio. In this expanded role, Mr. Joshi will lead the country’s educational policy development, oversee key academic institutions, and manage national developmental initiatives managed by the ministry.
