Bhubaneswar: The State Government is prioritizing the construction of high-quality buildings, roads, and bridges along with overall infrastructure development. In the construction sector, using quality materials enhances the durability of infrastructure.
To achieve high quality in construction projects as envisioned by the Principal Secretary, Works Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh Department of Works is focusing on a few critical structural and operational areas.
Ensuring long-lasting infrastructure requires moving from basic price determination to active quality enforcement throughout the project lifecycle.
Principal Secretary Shri Singh chairing the meeting advised to complete this process quickly to move the construction works forward.
On the other hand, the correct price determination of construction materials promotes project transparency, accelerates the construction process, and ensures the proper utilization of government funds. With this objective, a review meeting regarding the price determination of construction materials was held under the chairmanship of Department.
In this meeting, held at the departmental conference hall in Lok Seva Bhawan, discussions were conducted on how to determine correct and ideal prices for construction materials in the state by analyzing the notifications and rates issued by the central government’s construction department, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, State Labour Commission, Odisha Forest Development Corporation, IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, and other bodies.
The discussions covered the accurate price determination and adoption of related procedures for various materials used in the construction of buildings, roads, and bridges, starting from sand, gravel, cement, bricks, and bitumen to electrical items and furniture.
The meeting was attended by EIC-cum-Special Secretary of the Works Department Eng. L.K. Padhi, EIC (Civil) Eng. Satyabrata Behera, EIC (Design, Planning, and Coordination) Eng. Sameer Hota, EIC Roads Eng. Dhyanchand Nayak, Chief Engineer Eng. Priyabrata Samantaray, Chief Engineer Eng. Shibabrata Taria, Chief Engineer Eng. Arabinda Tripathy, Financial Advisor Shri Ratikanta Mohapatra, along with senior officials from the Water Resources, Housing and Urban Development, Rural Development, and Panchayati Raj departments.
