Bhubaneswar: Under India’s BRICS presidency, the upcoming technical meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group (DRRWG) is scheduled to be held from June 3 to 5, 2026, at the Taj Puri Resort in Puri, Odisha. Shri Suresh Pujari, the Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management, conducted a high-level review meeting at the Lok Seva Bhawan to ensure the successful organization of this international event.
ACS Revenue and Disaster Management, Dr.Arabinda Kumar Padhee detailed out agenda during the review. Minister emphasized that Odisha, a state that deeply believes in the ethos of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ (The Guest is God), should utilize this platform to showcase its rich heritage and culture. He noted that the event is a prime opportunity to inform the global community about Odisha’s achievements and milestones in disaster management, while also leveraging the occasion to learn from international best practices.
Delegates and experts from BRICS nations will attend the session to deliberate on various critical issues, including disaster management, resilience building, and international cooperation. Representatives from countries such as Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the UAE, and China are expected to participate, alongside delegates from various Indian states.
Odisha’s selection as the host for this significant technical meeting stems from its proactive, successful, and robust measures in disaster preparedness and mitigation. The state has earned widespread international acclaim for its cyclone management, community-based early warning systems, and efficient rescue and evacuation strategies.
Given that international delegates will be guests of the state, the Minister directed officials to ensure all arrangements are seamless and comfortable. He also ordered the deployment of dedicated liaison officers to assist the visiting dignitaries. Hosting this BRICS technical conference in Puri is expected to project Odisha’s success and expertise in disaster management on the global stage, further elevating the state’s international image.
