Paralakhemundi: In a major push toward environmental safeguarding and field-level governance, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force (PCCF & HoFF) of Odisha, Dr. K. Murugesan, conducted an extensive field visit to the Paralakhemundi Forest Division.
The Head of Forest Force focused on resolving ground-level operational challenges while reviewing ongoing conservation initiatives in the region.
During his multi-day tour, Dr. Murugesan interacted directly with grassroots forest personnel, local communities, and field supervisors to assess the challenges faced in managing the local ecosystem.
By assessing the issues firsthand, the PCCF aimed to eliminate administrative delays and optimize the deployment of resources to counter threats like poaching and illegal logging.
A key priority of the visit was strengthening the regional strategy against forest fires, which pose a severe risk to local biodiversity during dry seasons.
Dr. Murugesan spearheaded community awareness campaigns to educate villagers living near the forest fringes about early detection, prevention methods, and the catastrophic impact of man-made wildfires on the regional ecosystem.
In his interactions with the public, the senior Indian Forest Service officer emphasized that long-term environmental protection relies heavily on the active participation of local communities.
He urged villagers and joint forest management committees to take personal ownership of their natural heritage, highlighting that protecting regional flora and fauna directly benefits local water tables and weather patterns.
The visit is expected to bring systematic improvements to the Paralakhemundi Forest Division through upgraded patrolling mechanisms, faster resolution of field grievances, and a more robust network of community-led conservation efforts.
Local forest officials expressed that the direct involvement of the state forest chief has provided a significant boost to the morale of the ground staff tasked with guarding the state’s wildlife and green cover.
