Bhubaneswar: In a bold move to expand its role beyond conventional commercial banking, the Odisha State Cooperative Bank (OSCB) hosted an event centered on community service and agricultural development at its State Headquarters premises.

The occasion marked the formal launch of a clean drinking water facility, underscoring the cooperative system’s commitment to serving marginalized populations, local farmers, and ordinary citizens.

The initiative was officially launched by the Minister, Cooperation, Handloom, and Textiles, Shri Pradeep Bal Samanta.

Speaking at the event, the Minister highlighted that the cooperative bank acts as more than just a financial institution, representing the foundational aspirations of rural farmers and forming the backbone of the state’s rural economy.

He emphasized the government’s dedication to empowering the cooperative structure to foster growth and economic stability across rural villages, while also lauding the leadership of OSCB.

Veteran Cooperator and OSCB President, Shri T. Prasad Rao Dora, along with several members of the Board of Directors, expressed a collective determination to make the cooperative movement increasingly public-oriented.

The leadership emphasized that cooperatives serve as key instruments for economic strength, social justice, and rural empowerment. Shri Dora expressed confidence that the role of cooperatives in promoting self-reliance among farmers, youth, and women will continue to grow significantly.

He also expressed gratitude for the support extended by the State Government in scaling up the bank’s activities and noted that India’s cooperative movement has received a major boost under the guidance of Union Minister for Home and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah.

The session saw active participation from a wide group of cooperative professionals, workers, and key stakeholders, including Jagannath Pradhan, Prabhasini Sarangi, Mahendra Nayak, Bholeswar Swain, Purnima Singh, Prabhat Chandra Kanungo, and Prafulla Kumar Mohapatra.

Attendees collectively resolved to extend the influence of cooperative systems directly to the grassroots level. The foundational goals outlined at the event include bringing financial stability to farming families, creating employment opportunities for youth, and carving out new paths for the economic independence of women.
