New Delhi: Shri Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra, Principal Secretary, Finance, officially assumed additional responsibilities as the Principal Resident Commissioner on 2 May here at Resident Commissioner Office.
This transition is viewed by administrative observers as a strategic step toward resolving long-standing bottlenecks between the state and the Union Government.
A former Chief Secretary, who previously held the role of Resident Commissioner in New Delhi, noted that Shri Mishra’s extensive professional network within the central bureaucracy makes him uniquely suited for the assignment.
Known for an administrative style characterized by integrity and professionalism, Shri Mishra previously served as Resident Commissioner before his long and successful tenure with the Union Government.
This prior experience, coupled with the fact that many of his batchmates and seniors currently occupy high-ranking positions as Secretaries and Additional Secretaries in various Union Ministries and the Prime Minister’s Office, is expected to facilitate smoother inter-governmental coordination.
Internal observers have pointed out that several critical state issues had recently faced delays due to a lack of momentum at the Resident Commissioner’s Office.
With Shri Mishra now holding dual authority over the Finance Department and the New Delhi office in Government of Odisha, he is positioned to provide the Union Government with real-time fiscal and administrative perspectives, likely accelerating the resolution of pending state matters.
