Bhubaneswar: U.S. Consul General Ms. Laura paid a courtesy visit to Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo at Lok Seva Bhawan today.
The meeting focused on key sectors such as renewable energy, semiconductor manufacturing, and the promotion of Odisha’s rich tourism and cultural heritage.
The meeting was attended by Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Energy and E&IT, and Shri Sachin Ramachandra Yadav, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment.
A primary theme of the discussion was the transition toward sustainable energy. Deputy CM Singh Deo highlighted Odisha’s growing initiatives in the fields of renewable energy and Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs).
The conversation also covered the implementation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to ensure energy efficiency. The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the importance of integrating battery storage into every grid system and solar project to guarantee power availability during peak hours.
Regarding semiconductors and digital infrastructure, the leaders discussed the state’s efforts to establish India’s first 3D glass semiconductor chip manufacturing facility. Plans for setting up data centers and laying underground cables to modernize digital systems were also highlighted. Furthermore, the meeting touched upon the exploration of rare earth minerals found along the Odisha coastline.
To bolster industrial growth and investment, the dialogue included the region’s supply chain and logistics management capabilities, as well as the need for funding mature startups to strengthen Odisha’s entrepreneurial talent.
The Consul General praised Odisha’s resilience, specifically noting the state’s exceptional power distribution and recovery efforts following cyclones. To promote tourism and bilateral cultural exchange, the Deputy Chief Minister presented information on Odisha’s national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, and the state’s proactive role in promoting national sports.
As a gesture of goodwill, the Consul General was presented with a book showcasing Odisha’s vibrant culture.
