Dora Entry Empowers BJP

Bhubaneswar: The induction of Shri T. Prasad Rao Dora, Chairman of the Odisha State Cooperative Bank (OSCB), into the Bharatiya Janata Party marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.

This shift is a direct result of the strategic alignment between the State BJP leadership and the Union Ministry of Cooperation under Shri Amit Shah.

The “Cooperation among Cooperatives” model promoted by the central government has acted as a powerful catalyst, convincing veteran cooperative leaders that their institutional growth is now tied to the BJP’s national vision.

Cooperative Sector Veteran Shri Dora spearheaded a massive joining process where numerous presidents and directors of major cooperative bodies transitioned to the BJP, a move that significantly weakens the long-standing influence of the BJD in this sector while bolstering the BJP’s organizational strength.

The mass joining of cooperative leaders into the BJP on Utkal Diwas represents a structural collapse of the Biju Janata Dal’s influence over Odisha’s rural and economic grassroots.

For decades, the cooperative sector served as the financial and organizational backbone of the BJD, providing a direct link to farmers and rural voters through institutions like the Odisha State Cooperative Bank and various regional unions.

By spearheading the transition of high-ranking officials such as Cooperative Veteran and Odisha State Cooperative Bank (OSCB) Chairman Shri T. Prasad Rao Dora and more than 200 Cooperative Sector Leaders, the BJP has effectively dismantled the BJD’s monopoly over these vital networks.

The exit of heads from essential bodies like OSCB, Omfed, Boyanika, and Utkalika suggests that the BJD’s co-operative wing is not just losing individuals, but losing the very machinery it used to mobilize rural support.

State Cooperative Minister Shri Pradeep Bal Samanta and Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi have positioned this migration as a necessary step toward the 2036 vision of Viksit Odisha.

As these cooperative sector leaders bring with them hundreds of directors and local members, the BJP gains an established administrative infrastructure that was previously loyal to the opposition.

This realignment leaves the BJD with a significant vacuum in its grassroots economic strategy, marking a definitive end to its historical dominance over the state’s cooperative institutions.
