Dubey Remark Stalls House

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Legislative Assembly was adjourned until 11:30 AM today, March 31, 2026, following a massive uproar by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) lawmakers.

The opposition members stalled the House proceedings immediately after it convened, protesting against derogatory remarks made by BJP MP Shri Nishikant Dubey against the Legendary Biju Patnaik.

BJD members moved into the well of the House, shouting slogans and demanding a formal statement from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi regarding the MP’s comments. The lawmakers expressed deep resentment over Dubey’s allegations linking the legendary leader to the CIA during the 1962 India-China war, calling it an insult to the pride of Odisha.

Outside the House, Leader of Opposition Shri Naveen Patnaik condemned the remarks as outrageous and baseless. He stated that the BJP MP seemed unaware of historical facts, specifically noting that then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had coordinated defense tactics closely with Biju Patnaik during the 1962 conflict.

The tension in the Assembly followed the resignation of BJD MP Dr.Sasmit Patra from a parliamentary committee headed by Shri Dubey in protest.

While the House is scheduled to resume at 11:30 AM, BJD leaders have indicated they will continue to press for a reply from the government, asserting that the dignity of the state’s iconic leader is non-negotiable.
