Paradip: The Government of India has approved a significant infrastructure project at Paradip Port Authority in Odisha to establish it as a premier Green Hydrogen Hub under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. As part of this initiative, a specialized jetty dedicated to handling Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia will be developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The project is estimated to cost 797.17 crore rupees and is designed to provide a cargo handling capacity of 4 million tonnes per annum. This development aligns with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s recognition of Paradip Port, alongside Deendayal Port and V.O. Chidambaranar Port, as key locations for supporting the country’s green hydrogen ecosystem.
Beyond the new jetty, Paradip Port is part of a broader environmental strategy guided by the Harit Sagar Green Port Guidelines. These initiatives include the electrification of port equipment, vehicles, and railway tracks, as well as the implementation of Onshore Power Supply systems to reduce carbon intensity. The port’s transition toward sustainable operations is further supported by national programs like the Green Tug Transition Programme, which aims to replace conventional diesel-powered tugs with electric or hybrid alternatives.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, provided these details in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, highlighting how these strategic investments are positioning Paradip as a central player in India’s journey toward zero-emission maritime logistics and renewable energy export.
