Bhawanipatna: Odisha Police have achieved a significant breakthrough in their mission to eliminate Left Wing Extremism with the formal surrender of 11 high-ranking Maoists.
The group, which includes a Divisional Committee Member and five Area Committee Members, surrendered during a special function at the Reserve Police Lines in Bhawanipatna before Director General of Police YB Khurania and ADG Anti Maoist Operations Shri Sanjeeb Kumar Panda senior officials from the SOG, CRPF, and BSF.

Bhawanipatna.
This development follows the killing of Central Committee Member Ganesh Uike in December 2025, a blow that severely demoralized the cadres.
According to ADGP Shri Panda the surrender of these individuals, led by Maharashtra-native Nakul, indicates the fading influence of extremist ideology in the region.
The group surrendered an arsenal of 11 weapons, including an AK-47, an INSAS rifle, and four SLR rifles, along with a significant cache of ammunition.
ADGP Anti Maoist Operations, Sanjeeb Panda noted that this success brings the state closer to the Union Home Minister’s target of eradicating Naxalism by March 31, 2026.
The financial implications of this surrender are substantial. The individuals collectively carried rewards totaling 63.25 lakh rupees. Under the State Government’s Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy, they are set to receive a total compensation package of 1.23 crore rupees, which includes an additional cash component of 60 lakh rupees and approximately 10 lakh rupees for their surrendered weapons. They will also be provided with vocational training and financial assistance to facilitate their reintegration into mainstream society.
With districts like Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nuapada already declared Naxal-free, the number of active armed cadres in Odisha has dwindled to approximately 15. These remaining members, associated with State Committee member Sukru, are currently limited to the border areas of Kandhamal.
Odisha Police, in coordination with central forces, have announced that operations will be intensified in the Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Rayagada districts to ensure the state meets its goal of becoming entirely Naxal-free by the end of the month.
