Bhubaneswar: Directorate of Factories and Boilers, under the Labor and Employees’ State Insurance Department, organized a one-day training program titled Safety in Chemical Handling at the State Labour Institute in Bhubaneswar on March 13, 2026.
This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to create a safer industrial environment, protect the health and lives of workers, and promote sustainable industrial growth through regular safety awareness and skill enhancement.
The inaugural session was launched by Shri Indramani Tripathy, Director of Factories and Boilers, who attended as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasized that since various chemicals are widely used in industrial plants, specialized knowledge of their correct handling and safety protocols is essential.
Shri Tripathy, who is also Labour Commissioner, Odisha noted that such training programs play a fundamental role in preventing accidents and establishing a secure working atmosphere.
Dr. Malay Kumar Pradhan, Deputy Director of Factories and Boilers (Safety), delivered the welcome address, stating that a healthy workplace can only be ensured through timely action and awareness regarding chemical hazards and emergency response.
The technical sessions featured insights from industry experts who discussed specific chemical risks and safety protocols. Shri Ajay Kumar from IOCL Paradip Refinery presented on hazards related to hydrocarbons and petrochemicals, while Shri Prachi Sourav Panda from Paradip Phosphates Limited detailed safety protocols for ammonia and sulfuric acid.
In the second session, Shri Sanyasi Kumar Dakua from JK Paper Limited, Rayagada, discussed chlorine and hypochlorite management, and Dr. Abhishek Acharya from Sapigen Biologics provided information on pharmaceutical product hazards and safety standards.
Approximately 40 practicing engineers from various industrial organizations participated in the program to gain expertise in safe chemical usage and emergency prevention methods. The event concluded with a valedictory ceremony where certificates were distributed to all participants.
