Bhubaneswar: The political landscape in Odisha witnessed a flurry of activity today as key candidates for the biennial Rajya Sabha elections officially entered the fray.
Representing the Bharatiya Janata Party, State President Manmohan Samal and sitting MP Sujit Kumar filed their nomination papers at the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
They were joined by veteran leader and former Union Minister Dillip Ray, who filed his nomination as an independent candidate with the formal backing of the BJP.
The high-profile filing took place in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo. The event saw a significant gathering of the state’s top leadership, including State In-Charge Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, various members of the Council of Ministers, and several MLAs. Chief Whip of the ruling party, Saroj Kumar Pradhan, was also present to mark the occasion.
With four seats from Odisha up for election, the entry of these three candidates sets the stage for a strategic contest. The ruling party appears to be consolidating its strength, as evidenced by the unified support shown during the nomination process today.
As the deadline for filing expires, all eyes now turn to the scrutiny of papers and the subsequent voting process, which will determine the state’s new representatives in the Upper House of Parliament.
