Patna: In a historic move that signals the end of an era in Bihar politics, Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar has announced his intention to transition to the Rajya Sabha, paving the way for a major leadership reshuffle in the state.
Addressing the people through a post on X, the JD(U) Supremo expressed deep gratitude for more than two decades of public trust. He highlighted that his dedication and the support of the citizens allowed Bihar to reach new dimensions of development and dignity.
Shri Nitish Kumar, who has served as Chief Minister for a record ten terms, shared that he has long harbored a desire to serve in all four legislative bodies: both Houses of the Bihar Legislature and both Houses of Parliament. By seeking a seat in the Rajya Sabha in the current elections, he aims to fulfill this long-standing parliamentary aspiration.
While moving to a national role, Shri Nitish Kumar assured the public that his relationship with the people of Bihar remains steadfast. He emphasized that his resolve to build a developed Bihar would not waver and promised his full cooperation and guidance to the incoming government.
The announcement comes amid intense political activity in Patna, as the NDA prepares for a transition. Reports suggest that the Bharatiya Janata Party, the largest party in the ruling coalition, may claim the Chief Minister’s post for the first time in the state’s history. Meanwhile, there is significant speculation regarding the political debut of Shri Nitish Kumar’s son, Shri Nishant Kumar, who is rumored to be taking on a key role within the JD(U) or the new administration.
Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah is expected to be present in Patna today as nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha seats are filed. With the deadline approaching, this strategic shift by the JD(U) leader marks a definitive turning point for Bihar’s political landscape.
